WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A new Internal Revenue Service unit set up to catch rich tax cheats hiding their wealth in complex business entities is rapidly taking shape with the hiring of hundreds of employees.

The IRS high wealth unit, part of a broader effort to combat international tax evasion, is focusing on “the entire web of business entities controlled by a high wealth individual,” IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman told a tax conference this week.

Another IRS official told Reuters “hundreds” of people have already been hired to staff the new unit, including some from within the agency.

“We have drawn top talent within the IRS that have expertise involving wealthy individuals as well as examination of their related entities,” said Mae Lew, an IRS special counsel.

The Pakistani government has denied that Mullah Omar and the “Quetta Shura” — his executive ruling council for Afghanistan — was based in Pakistan. That is until Pakistan’s defense minister said the Quetta Shura is indeed in Pakistan. But rest assured it is not a threat.

For feds, more get 6-figure salaries…Average pay $30,000 over private sector..

USA Today

The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data.

Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession’s first 18 months — and that’s before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.

Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector.

The highest-paid federal employees are doing best of all on salary increases. Defense Department civilian employees earning $150,000 or more increased from 1,868 in December 2007 to 10,100 in June 2009, the most recent figure available.

Failed health talks set up another working weekend for Senate…Poor Babies…

The Hill

The collapse in negotiations sets up the second consecutive working weekend for weary senators. Reid says he has fielded complaints from colleagues because of the nonstop pace. One colleague told the leader that she has not seen her family for several weeks, Reid reported earlier in the day.

Reid was forced to cancel a Saturday fundraiser in New Orleans with Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) and Democratic consultant James Carville.

Gosh, I feel so bad. “has not seen her family for several weeks“. Tell that to our military forces chickie.

Sorry Mary, I know Harry was bring more money for ’services rendered’. Carville, phhfft…What can one say about Carville…NOTHING!

No doubt all have heard or viewed Obama’s speech in his acceptance of the Nobel. What say you?

Since I’ve been screwed up all day, I really haven’t had the chance to read or view.

Have been offline all day with cable problems. The shock therapy treatment did help though…LOL.

Don’t know if I’ve mentioned this and if I have, forgive my absent mindedness…

I work seasonally for UPS, obviously this time of year is rather busy for some reason…lol. Working for UPS keeps me exactly where I chose to be physically, prior to that I unloaded trucks on a night shift basis. Mentally, there is no hope for this lad of Sicilian decent. Emotionally is makes me feel like a real Father Christmas delivering their gifts, without the Red Suit and a pillow midstream.

One thing that really amazed me is, the amount a deliveries that UPS makes to our Postal Service. Every single day there is  stop at this Gatlinburg post office, minimal drop off is 50 packages perday and has been as high as 150 per day.

The cable problems was the of coal and switches in a wonderful day. THAT took my non-existent red suit completely off and brought my heritage blood up a notch or two, like…Hey Jimmy, wees need to go for a ride , the boys been saying you ain’t what you was, no more…yous knows what I mean guy?
